ORTHODONTICS IN CHILD AGE
How to understand if your child needs a braces?
From 5 to 6 years old you can bring your baby to the first orthodontic visit. The majority of children of 7 years has a mixed dentition, this can be an advantage for patients who can detect and correct the problems related to malocclusion and craniofacial growth if treated early. If you expect the eruption of all permanent teeth, the correction of the problem may be more difficult. The main purpose therefore is not to align the teeth perfectly (because at this stage the patient has not yet all permanent teeth) but to prevent major malocclusions through the elimination of bad habits such as thumb sucking, to restore proper breathing and can positively influence the early correction of malocclusion that may impact negatively on growth. The braces can accompany the growth toward normal parameters driving the potential in the right direction and to monitor the development of the teeth, for example gaining space with the reduction of possibility of extraction of permanent teeth. The interceptive orthodontics is therefore very important as it promotes the proper growth of the jaws, reduces the possibility of continuing with a second treatment (although not eliminating it) and also improves the patient’s self esteem in the presence of malocclusions obvious that they can put it in discomfort with the other children.
